  • Jogs to the head of the publication unless specified

  • .125″ grind off along spine

2) Blow-Ins

Saddle Stitch Publications

  • Maximum size: 4″ x 6″
  • Minimum size: 3.5″ x 5.5″

Perfect Bound Publications

  • Maximum size: 5″ (W) x 6.5″ (H)
  • Minimum size: 5” (W) x 3.5” (H)

Saddle or Perfect Bound Publications

  • Must be flat, nothing folded
  • Minimum stock weight: 70lb text
  • Maximum stock weight: 7pt uncoated (no varnish or uv coating)
  • Will be placed between forms
  • If more than one blow-in is required, please contact your CSR to discuss.

3) Tip-Ons

  • Minimum size (side to side): 3″ (smaller tip-ons need to be on heavy stock)
  • Minimum size (up and down): 3″ (smaller tip-ons need to be on heavy stock)
  • Maximum size: This will depend on a number of factors, including the binding method of the host publication and paper weight. Please discuss the specifications with your CSR.
  • Tip-ons need to be at least .25″ from the spine for saddle stitched publications
  • Tip-ons need to be at least .375″ from the spine for perfect bound publications
  • Cover tip-ons should be .125″ smaller on all 4 sides than the trim size of the host publication.
  • Minimum or maximum thickness of tip-on will depend on the binding method and on the paper stock of both the tip-on and the host publication. Please contact your CSR to discuss specific situations.
  • Tip-ons will be placed on the front or back of a signature (except cover tip-ons).

4) Polybagged Onserts

(Mechanically Inserted into the Polybag)

  • Minimum size: 4″ x 6″
  • Maximum size: Size of host publication
  • Minimum thickness: 60lb text
  • Maximum thickness: .25″
  • Onserts must have a closed end. Open ended pieces such as maps and accordion folded brochures cannot be onserted mechanically.
  • Please be aware of the postal implications if the onsert mails with the publication. Contact your CSR with any questions.

Packaging Specifications

When supplying inserts, please pack in cartons. Each carton should weigh not more than 40lbs. Please attach a sample on the outside of each carton. Please clearly write the quantity on the outside of each carton. Please have all inserts packed in the same direction. No turns.
