As many of you may know the USPS is proposing a rate increase for January of 2011. This proposal is currently with the Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC) who oversees the operations of the Postal Service. They have until October 4, 2010 to make a decision. If approved the USPS has 90 days to notify mailers of the increase which would put the effective date of the increase at 1/2/11.
Here is a guide on the proposed increase:
First Class Mail: 5.4 %
Standard Mail: 5.6 %
Periodicals: 8.0 %
Package Services: 6.7 %
Special Services: 5.2 %
Here is a link to yesterday's press release from the USPS:
Cummings will do what we can to make sure our voice is heard. This increase is bad for our industry both in the short and long term. It flies in the face of the agreement made back in 2006 and opens the door to exigent increases in the future.
